Louisville Ski Club
Skiing and a whole lot more since 1956!

The LSC originated in 1956 with a few avid snow skiers whose prime interest was to promote the sport. We offer a variety of winter and snow-ski activities, such as NASTAR-type downhill racing, ski weekends, and Western and European ski trips.

Today, we offer a wide range of other year-round social activities, such as Friday Night Happy Hours, boating, camping, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, wine tasting, hiking, house boating, event parties, and organized co-ed leagues for volleyball, softball and bowling. We are a member of the Ohio Valley Ski Council, and support Special Olympics KY.

¨¨Member of the Month¨¨

 Chris Heavrin

Chris Heavrin was voted in as Member of the Month of May because he (along with the help of Gail) has done a fantastic job of stepping up to run the bowling league this year, as well as accepting a seat on the board as our Member-at-Large for 2016. And it is obvious that he truly cares about the Ski Club.

Chris has been in LSC for 8 years. He started in the club to play softball. One of his favorite things to do is boating at Rough River Lake. He and his wife Gail have a place they call “Heavrin's Haven”. It’s a little spot in Indian Valley by Short Creek that is a "labor of love". And they wouldn't have it any other way. Some of his hobbies include boating, bowling, softball, bad golf, and enjoying time with friends.

“I live in Middletown with Saint Gail. We enjoy our little oasis and our back porch. Have 2 cats and great neighbors, and a Blue Room. I kinda like U.K.”

Chris’s favorite activities in the Ski Club include the Laurel lake trip. “I loved the costumes, games, friends, comrade, camping, and beer. And Happy Hours are a good time also. Enjoying different venues is a plus.”

“Two of my favorite moments stick out. The West Virginia trip Don Griffin did. Big snow piled up in doorways, deer eating Cheeze-its out of our hands, and the party time we all had. Another is a Laurel Lake trip where there was obstacle tube walking, 5 man gladiator tubing, a slingshot water balloon battle with another flotilla, cliff jumping, and flashing!!!”

“I'm just happy that I have met all of you. I am enriched for it.

Thanks Chris (and Gail) for all that you do for us!!

I would like to say THANKS all RETURNING MEMBERS who renewed recently and a big WELCOME to NEW MEMBERS!  This will be an epic year for the club as we continue our 60th year celebrations.

Summer fun has begun! Softball and Sand Volleyball leagues are gearing up. If you are not in the league you are always welcome as a fan. Stop by and cheer on your favorite teams and meet some new friends.

We’ll be having our first ever Networking Event during happy hour the night of the June 10th General Club Meeting. If you’d like to showcase your business and reserve event space, be sure to register as space is limited! I know I for one am excited to get to know what some of our members do.

Be sure to check back here regularly for Friday happy hour locations! As the weather warms up, we’ll be looking forward to those patios and outdoor destinations that we love so much. Happy hours are a perfect way to introduce your friends to the club, or get connected if you are a new member. And if you haven’t been to an event in a while, it’s a great way for you to reconnect as well!

Save the date for the Winter Kick off! July 15th. We will be moving July Club meeting to this date. We will return to our normal second Friday of the month schedule as usual in August.  You won’t want to miss this event! Winter Ski Trips will be announced and available for registrations. Come prepared to write checks or put down a cash deposit. Details are still being worked out but we may have some local vendors on hand as well as door prizes and other fun stuff!!

And as always, if you have an idea for an event, would like to volunteer for an event,  and would like information and/or help getting started please feel free to join us at a Board Meeting to present your idea. Board meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month at Aero Club at 630pm (unless otherwise noted on the calendar).  Any member is welcome to attend.

Yours Truly,

Denise Frye
