Louisville Ski Club
Skiing and a whole lot more since 1956!

The LSC originated in 1956 with a few avid snow skiers whose prime interest was to promote the sport. We offer a variety of winter and snow-ski activities, such as NASTAR-type downhill racing, ski weekends, and Western and European ski trips.

Today, we offer a wide range of other year-round social activities, such as Friday Night Happy Hours, boating, camping, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, wine tasting, hiking, house boating, event parties, and organized co-ed leagues for volleyball, softball and bowling. We are a member of the Ohio Valley Ski Council, and support Special Olympics KY.

¨¨Member of the Month¨¨

Debbie G

Debbie Gravatte was elected Member of the Month of June for her hard work and dedication to the club.  She does a fabulous job running the softball league, year after year, as well as running ski trips and various other activities. Thank you Debbie (and Denis) for everything you do. You are very much appreciated!  Here's some info about Debbie in her own words:

"I joined the Louisville Ski Club in August, 1990 with the intent of getting back into snow skiing.  Then found I loved doing all the activities and meeting new friends.  Got active in the sports leagues of volleyball and softball.  Went on and ran boating, camping and ski trips.  Joined the board as treasurer.  Thru the years have enjoyed all the many activities with what has become a great group of ski club friends.  Even started bowling a few years ago.  And most importantly met Denis and we married in 1995.  We’ve raised 3 great sons, Chris, Steven and P.J. Now have 3 wonderful grandsons, ages 2, 4 and 8 thanks to Steven and Tua (Steven’s wife).  We are lucky that all are local except my son P.J. moved to Denver, CO last year. Denis and I now enjoy our home on the river sharing it with our 2 cats.  Spend our time boating on the Ohio or relaxing on our deck in the summer.  Play volleyball year round and softball in the summer.  Still love snow sking and try to go on at least one trip a year. I am a die hard Louisville Cardinal fan.  Love going to Louisville football games.

I am hard pressed to pick a favorite ski club activity.  I would have to say dancing the electric slide at every ski club meeting, dance, party, or après ski event possible, playing softball and snow skiing are my 3 favorite.

Most memorable is a tough one too.  But I will have to say the infamous bus trips to Seven Springs Ski Resort rank among the most fun and wildest.  The 8 hour bus party on the way up, the après ski there, then the post trip parties can’t be beat.  The Laurel Lake “Miss Laurel Lake” contests were by far the funniest and just plain priceless.

Overall joining the club 26 years ago was one of the best decisions I ever made.  This is a great group of active people (maybe even a few party animals) that has greatly enriched my life.  It has been my pleasure to volunteer thru the years to keep the traditions of good times moving on.  And I am looking forward to many more years of fun and staying active."- Debbie Gravatte

I would like to say THANKS all RETURNING MEMBERS who renewed recently and a big WELCOME to NEW MEMBERS!  This will be an epic year for the club as we continue our 60th year celebrations.

Summer fun has begun! Softball and Sand Volleyball leagues are gearing up. If you are not in the league you are always welcome as a fan. Stop by and cheer on your favorite teams and meet some new friends.

We’ll be having our first ever Networking Event during happy hour the night of the June 10th General Club Meeting. If you’d like to showcase your business and reserve event space, be sure to register as space is limited! I know I for one am excited to get to know what some of our members do.

Be sure to check back here regularly for Friday happy hour locations! As the weather warms up, we’ll be looking forward to those patios and outdoor destinations that we love so much. Happy hours are a perfect way to introduce your friends to the club, or get connected if you are a new member. And if you haven’t been to an event in a while, it’s a great way for you to reconnect as well!

Save the date for the Winter Kick off! July 15th. We will be moving July Club meeting to this date. We will return to our normal second Friday of the month schedule as usual in August.  You won’t want to miss this event! Winter Ski Trips will be announced and available for registrations. Come prepared to write checks or put down a cash deposit. Details are still being worked out but we may have some local vendors on hand as well as door prizes and other fun stuff!!

And as always, if you have an idea for an event, would like to volunteer for an event,  and would like information and/or help getting started please feel free to join us at a Board Meeting to present your idea. Board meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month at Aero Club at 630pm (unless otherwise noted on the calendar).  Any member is welcome to attend.

Yours Truly,

Denise Frye
